Download the SB Nation app on iOS or Android . Michigan State made a game of it into the fourth quarter but, ultimately, Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback CJ Carr and the suffocating Irish defense were too much for MSU. A bigger issue for Michigan State than bouncing back from their first loss of the season might be keeping their best players healthy heading into conference play. Linebacker Jordan Hall went the whole way at Notre Dame but is still dealing with an elbow injury suffered in the opener and kept him out of the EMU game. Hall's linemate, Brady Pretzlaff, went out after a massive collision at Notre Dame and did not return. On offense, leading rusher Cam Edwards had to be helped off the field late in the game after slipping on the turf and appearing to suffer some sort of left ankle injury. Pretzlaff's injury certainly seems to be the most serious while Hall and Edwards potentially being hampered would obviously make things much harder for MSU. The Cornhuskers, like MSU, opened with consecutive wins against MAC opponents, 49-21 against Ohio and then 56-7 over Bowling Green.

READ UPDATE →NATIONAL UPDATEIt wasn't a strong performance for the Spartans ' starting quarterback on Saturday night and he didn't shy away from that in the postgame press conference. Following the game, Milivojevic met with the media to discuss his performance and the overall team's performance against Notre Dame. Here are some of the notable takeaways from his media availability: Milivojevic stated he "needs to be better" for Michigan State to upset a team of Notre Dame's level. Milivojevic said he felt Michigan State came out with energy and were capable of winning this game. Milivojevic felt Michigan State "gave it away as much as they took it from us." Milivojevic talked about the Spartans' depth and the ability to lean on different players throughout the game to make plays for the offense. Milivojevic stated the Spartans are ready to turn the page on this game, and turn their focus to next week's Big Ten opener against Nebraska .

READ UPDATE →NATIONAL UPDATEMichigan State football will play another home game under the lights in a few weeks. The official game times and TV assignments for the Big Ten games in two weeks were released on Monday , with the Spartans and Nebraska Cornhuskers landing an odd time. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Michigan State is currently 2-0 on the season with an upcoming matchup at No. This is a fun and different kickoff time for the Spartans as it falls essentially between the 3:30 p. ET window we typically see for Big Ten games. It'll be interesting to see if this is more of a one-off event or if this going to be a new norm in the league.
