Jason Candle meets old foe as UConn football travels to Miami, Ohio, first time: How to watch. Saturday will be the first time the UConn football program ever visits Oxford, Ohio, and the Miami RedHawks. It won’t be the same case for first-year head coach Jason Candle and nearly one-third of the Huskies’ roster that came with him from Toledo. He and coach Chuck Martin have a bit of a history as both took over their respective Mid-American Conference programs two years apart, though ...
READ UPDATE →NATIONAL UPDATEUConn AD David Benedict immediately shoots down latest football conference report. A report that UConn had contacted the American Athletic Conference about a football-only reunion was immediately shot down by both the league and Huskies AD David Benedict. “Would be nice to be contacted about these kind of reports,” Benedict said via social media. “Wasn’t aware of this.”
READ UPDATE →NATIONAL UPDATEOne reason other schools are seeking out the American is the league’s revenue and brand. The league has a media rights deal that is substantially more than the other Group of Six conferences. In 2019, the American signed a 12-year, $1 billion media rights deal with ESPN, which at the time was worth more than $7 million annually per school. The conference also brought all of its multimedia rights in-house and built a commercial arm, Rise Ventures, under commissioner Tim Pernetti, increased its value by 100% in 11 months and launched a modernized brand. The American is also the only Group of Six conference that has had multiple teams make either the four-team or 12-team College Football Playoff – Cincinnati in 2021 and Tulane last season. The attempt by Miami (Ohio) to gain membership is similar to how American member Memphis tried to join the Big 12. In July 2025, Memphis offered the Big 12 $250 million in sponsorship to join the league, but the Big 12 wasn’t interested. Miami (Ohio) has spent the last year positioning itself as an expansion target for the American.
READ UPDATE →NATIONAL UPDATEUConn football takes to Southern Miss for first road game under Jason Candle: How to watch. All eyes will be on the state of Mississippi this college football Saturday. Coach Lane Kiffin will be making his much-anticipated return to Oxford after leaving Ole Miss for LSU while on the verge of a College Football Playoff appearance last season. It is one of the the biggest games of the year thus far; a top-10 matchup with plenty of emotion involved.
READ UPDATE →NATIONAL UPDATEUConn Football Notes: Huskies looking for rhythm in the run game to jolt their offense. STORRS – Cyncir Bowers prefers road games. The new UConn running back enjoys the idea of going into someone else’s home, taking over and feeling the silence of their crowd. “You gotta take over they trap,” he said.
READ UPDATE →NATIONAL UPDATEWhat to know as UConn looks for first power conference win of season against Maryland. Mike Locksley had a slip of the tongue in his press conference this week. Maryland’s eighth-year head football coach opened with a statement about how he and his staff reviewed and corrected the details from the tape of their 62-0 season-opening win over Hampton last week before getting a jump start on this week’s opponent, “Toledo,” he said without hesitation. It was a fair slip up.
