This one has a little more history to it than people remember. WVU and Coastal have only met once before, all the way back in 2010, when the Chanticleers were still an FCS program.

Sixteen years later, Coastal is a very different program, but this is still very much a get-right game for us at home. WVU opened as roughly 21-and-a-half-point favorites, with the over/under sitting around 58 and a half points.

Numbers like that tell you exactly how this one is supposed to go on paper. Coastal fired Tim Beck after a rough finish to 2025 and brought in Ryan Beard, one of the youngest head coaches in the sport, off a three-year run at Missouri State where he helped that program transition from FCS to FBS.

Beard inherited a defensive front that's genuinely their strength right now — coordinator L.D. Scott rebuilt the D-line almost from scratch, brought a couple of familiar faces with him from Missouri State, and switched the scheme to get more athletes on the field. That group could be one of the better ones in the Sun Belt this year.
